about
Was it Halloween? I was on mushrooms so being waylaid wasn’t surprising, but anything keeping my attention was. The band I saw was Dharma Bums. The sound they made was beautiful. Ragged but right. The hair! Jeremy’s dancing and wild locks whirling was not at all the macho posturing you saw a lot of back then, but rather rooted in ballet. I stood there rapt for the rest of the set, then tracked down the records and the songs imprinted on my soul. The minute they played those reunion shows I was front and center. Rachel spent her teen years at every Dharma Bums show she could before preceding Moen as the Decemberists’ drummer.
I don’t know how that guitar workout at the end came about, but I can say I’ve never let myself stretch out like that before on a track and damn it felt good. I hope Eric Lovre approves! An honor to be a part of this. Dharma Bums forever. – Casey
